I love the farmer’s market. I go every Saturday during the spring, summer and fall months. I believe it is healthier to eat from the locals. They don’t use as much pesticides and you are supporting people who work hard at their craft! I believe that farming is an art. It is full of wonderful colors!
Today I bought some Mustard Greens. These greens are very nutritious, full of vitamins and minerals. They have a bit of a bitter taste. Try a piece of stem raw, and it almost feels like it is spicy!
Here is my simple recipe for today. Wash very well, one large Mustard Green bunch. Use a strainer and make sure you get out all of the dirt.
Next chop 2 cloves of garlic and 1/2 large white onion.
Chop all ingredients, including the mustard greens and squeeze them all into your steamer. I like to layer the chopped garlic and onion throughout the mixture so that the flavors come through.
Steam for about 5-10 minute depending on how big your bunch of mustard greens were, and the texture you like your greens.
Allow to cool.
The next thing that I do is pour a cup of prepared spicy salsa and mix well.
You can also make your own salsa! It is easy. If you have the time, all you need are a few fresh tomatoes, an onion, cumin and green peppers. Chop them, leave in the refrigerator overnight for better tasting Salsa!
You have a great side dish for dinner.
