Meaningful Times As We Age

I have time to paint now. This hobby of mine was put on the back burner of my life. No more procrastination, I can create beauty.

What does getting older mean to you?

Growing older means that you have to face some things. You may not be as quick as you used to be in your mind or body!

You may also begin to look older, and that fact may depress you a bit.

But I think that age lines are a sign of a good life. You worked for every single line and wrinkle!

The good news about growing older is that you really do not have the responsibilities that you had in youth. Here are a few examples:

1. In your youth, you had to figure out what you were going to do with your life. Whether or not to have children. What kind of career you want. Where to live. What kind of home to buy.

With aging- you have already been there. You have much more free time to just think about life. No stress, unless you make some, and if you are retired, every day is Sunday!! You begin to notice that one day is no different then the other. I did not realize this until I retired. I used to live for the weekends, and now, every day is the same beautiful, meaningful day. I hardly ever have to rush off to something like I used to. Rushing to pick up the kids, working overtime and feeling stressed about it and rushing to get home and make dinner all stressed me out. I felt like I did not have a minute to spare. Now every single minute counts as “my time.” It seems almost selfish, but I haveĀ a lot of spare time to do exactly whatever I want to do, and sometimes that is just taking a slow or fast walk into town, or painting a picture.

2.In your youth, you did not have the money or the time to plan vacations to fun places. You were lucky if you went away one time a year.

Now you can go anywhere that you want to. You do not have to plan as closely as you used to plan. ( asking your employer for some time off and getting rejected). You can plan long or short trips, whenever you want. I enjoy those short trips, even the ones that are just a few days. As you age, you need to just get away to help you regroup. When you do not have planned activities, life gets a little boring. People who are successful at aging have many hobbies. This may include exercising, working on projects such as cars, working part time at something you really enjoy instead of a job that makes you a lot of money. Who cares about money? When you are older, the money tree can be smaller. Your needs are not as great as they used to be.

I guess it is not so bad getting older, and maybe it is not hard to accept it! You really do not have a choice in the matter, but you can make the best of every single day in your life.
