Integrated Medicine

This approach goes beyond the  “Doctor, you fix it” type of medicine. No longer do we have a disease- and just give it a pill. We need to integrate other things into the scope of overall wellness and health.

Integrated medicine is a blend of different medicines for healing. In his book, Staying Healthy With The Seasons, Doctor Elson Haas speaks on the four aspects of Integrated medicine:

1. Integrated medicine blends Family Practice with health supports such as Herbal and Nutritional Remedies. Remedies can also include Acupuncture, Body Therapies, Counseling and Psychotherapy.

2. Integrated medicine is a Multidisciplinary Approach.  It uses a variety of medical services such as Western and Eastern, Natural and Pharmaceutical, Body Therapies and Psychotherapy.

3. Integrated medicine incorporates all levels of a person’s health and lifestyle. Mental, emotional, physical, spiritual, Nutritional, Habits, and Stress. All of these components of health are factors in healing.

4. Integrated medicine uses a new approach to symptoms and illness. Instead of saying, “How can I get rid of this?” You begin to understand that there is no attack and conquer approach and begin to realize that problems represent conflicts within yourself. Healing may mean resolving issues, conflicts and emotions.

Using Lifestyle Modification can bring you closer to health. When you take all aspects of your self: Your mind, body and soul, you begin to motivate yourself to make the changes you need to make in order to heal.

Your part in your own health

If your doctor is willing to use an integrative approach, you have a part too. You need to make the Lifestyle Changes that are needed in order for you to feel well.
