Yoga breathing can help your Sinus

In the spring, and late in the fall, many people have sinus problems. Here is a breathing technique to use when you need to clear your sinuses for the day!

The is called a Frontal Sinus Cleansing by authors Feurestein and Payne, from Yoga for Dummies.

According to yoga theory, everything is connected, your mind, body and soul. Therefore this interconnectedness includes your breath.

The kind of breath is called: Kapala-bhati: Pronounced: (Kah-pah-la-bhah-tee)

1. Sit in a comfortable cross-legged posture, holding your spine straight and resting your hands in your lap.

2. Take a few deep breaths and, after your last inhale, do 15-20 fast exhales, followed by a short inhale, using the nose to inhale and exhale.

3. Repeat this 2 times. With each exhale, which lasts only for a half a second, pull in you abdomen.

Remember to stay relaxed and allow your abdomen muscles to do the work.

Kapala-bhati is a very energizing technique that can combat fatigue, and should be practiced during the day, and not in cold air. Before attempting to practice, try to relax your abdomen during your inhalations, and pulling in on your abdomen during exhalations
