Making Changes with the Seasons

Take some time in your day to visit your local farmers market and find some fruits and veggies for your autumn meals.


It is autumn, and we should make some changes to make our lives better.

Maybe it is time to clear out some of your bad habits or change your attitude about things. Or maybe you should start to exercise more so that you do not gain weight when we move into the winter months!

I like goals, so with the changes of the seasons, I try to create another goal.

This autumn season I am hopeful that I will expand my horizons with volunteering.

So far, I have accomplished part of my goal through a once a week group that I created on healthy living. I  spend time with friends and potential friends, giving guidance on the topic of weight loss and maintenance.

For my next goal, I am trying to continue spreading the word on staying healthy to as many people who will listen to me! For my own healthy eating I try to eat with the season.

For example in the book by Elson Haas, Staying Healthy With the Seasons, he suggests for a balanced diet in the autumn, squash or pumpkin stuffed with wild rice, sliced almonds and mushrooms is a great autumn dish.

Warming up your day

The cool autumn weather is also a good time to begin making soups. I love creamy squash or yam soup. It is easy to make. All you need to do is steam your squash until tender, cool and put in a blender with about a cup of almond ( or regular skim milk), some spices such as cinnamon,ginger, and cloves, and you have a great meal. Add more or less milk depending on how thick you like your soup.

Energy and your diet

Your diet is related to your energy level and your state of wellness.  To stay healthy in autumn a diet of fruits, veggies, a lot of grains, nuts, beans and seeds can be helpful in the autumn.
