>There are pre and probiotics, We all know about the probiotics because they are in yogurt. But did you know that eating bananas, garlic and onions help your digestive tract? These prebiotics, or resistant starches tend to digest slower in the body, not causing the blood glucose surge. So they are also good for people with diabetes.
Today, the focus is on the banana. It is rich in Vitamin C, B6 and fiber. Resistant starches such as bananas may reduce the risk of cancer, especially colon cancer. Red bananas contain more vitamin C, beta and alpha carotene than the yellow ones. All bananas are a good source of potassium and that is why the US Food and Drug Administration recommends eating foods that are rich in potassium, and low in sodium which may help reduce the risk of high blood pressure and stroke.
They also help with diarrhea in children. Remember the BRAT Diet that the docs give for diarrhea? Bananas, Rice, Apples and Tea ( some say toast too!). This combination really helps.
Bananas have also been shown to be helpful with ulcers. They contain compounds that can destroy the harmful bacteria called H. Pylori which is believed to be responsible for ulcers.
So eat your bananas!
