>Practicing Yoga

>As I learn more about the practice of yoga, I will pass it along to you, my readers.
I have practiced and taught yoga to beginners for many years.
One of my goals for this year-( and for my 40 days of things to give up until Easter) includes
popcorn– which I am having a hard time with- and learning something new: My studies on yoga!

Yoga can be considered a science.
The science of personal development, where one learns that yoga is much more than just an exercise (as many people who attend yoga classes think).

When a person studies the details related to yoga practice, they learn that yoga is a unity and an  integration between the mind, body and soul.
Each of these elements are important for overall wellness.
When one part of the whole is not well, the rest suffers. Think about how you feel when you are physically sick. You mind and spirit also are affected by your physical illness, just as your physical being can be affected by mental and emotional difficulties. Think about the last time you were really stressed out. Did your body suffer too?
Did you feel like going to the gym when you were stressed?
Did you take a walk and think about how to calm down?
That is how yoga practice can help you. You learn how to not only stretch your body and breathe correctly, you learn how to get in touch with your silent part. The part of your mind and spirit that needs exercise too.
So what is Yoga?
The definition of yoga is “The stilling of the movement of the subconscious mind.”
Yoga can be thought of as a discipline that you need to study. Yoga can benefit you by teaching you to consciously live life to the best of your ability.
Yoga is about taking control of your life and accepting responsibility for your behaviors, thoughts, actions and reactions to things in your life.
To start you off on your way toward learning more on yoga philosophy, here are the 5 Principles of Yoga:
1. Proper relaxation
2. Proper exercise
3. Proper breathing
4. Proper Diet
5. Positive Thinking and Meditation
Since I have a hand in the positive thinking avenue- I think my exploration on learning new skills related to learning about yoga will be a fun journey.
Next entry on yoga will explain the different kinds of yoga.
