Getting out of the Blues

Take a very long walk with a friend. It helps to balance and center you for the day. Walking is the perfect form of exercise.

As we approach the winter months some of us get the blues.

I am one of those people who seem to have problems as the sunshine in my life disappears.

We have to be more creative about exercise, because you cannot get outside every day. I try. I have cleats on the bottom of my boots to dig into the snow.

 

 

But we do not have enough sunlight in New York in the winter months, therefore many of us suffer from seasonal affective disorder, so make sure that you get outside for the natural vitamin D, and if you cannot ~ supplements of Vitamin D may be in order.

Dr. Andrew Weil in his Healthy Aging book recommends that we have 1,000 units of Vitamin D a day. Most multivitamins only have about 400IU, so you need additional Vitamin D to get the recommended 1,000 units.

In the winter months, some of us begin to have trouble with achy joints, especially if you live in a cold climate. Dr. Weil recommends some anti inflammatory support through herbs.

Herbs for Inflammation

Ginger and turmeric can be added easily to some of your dishes. Dried ginger is a powerful anti inflammatory¬† agent. Turmeric may also have a preventative effect against Alzheimer’s Disease.

Detox

Another way to get out of the blues may be a good detox

Protect yourself from exposure to toxins such as smoking. Drink purified water, and try to eat pesticide-free foods. I buy from the local farmers.

Eat lower on the food chain by eating more fresh fruits and vegetables.

You do not have to take a laxative to detox. Try breathing some clean air, ( breathing deeply), sweating a lot through exercising and /or taking saunas, and drinking plenty of purified water.

Walk

I believe that walking is probably the best form of exercise, and you can do it every single day of your life. It not only keeps you in physical shape, it gets you out of the blues!!
