>It is all about your portions- Grains and starches are good for you

>Grains and other strarches:
1. Rice is one of the best foods for slimming down. It is low in calories and very nutritious. At the grocery store there are a variety of rice choices such as wild rice, brown rice, long grain rice, pecan rice,  risotto with tomato, or rice pilaf.
Near the rices you will also see couscous, and tabouli
2. Spaghetti with tomato sauce. Whole grain spaghetti is the best.
3. Bread- whole grain varieties are the best
4. Corn: corn is a grain, not a vegetable. Enjoy corn but without the butter, margerine or oil.
5. Potatoes: baked, mashed, steamed or broiled ( not the french fries or hash browns)  Do not add butter, sour cream to your potatoes. Try them with Salsa!
Legumes:  (Beans, peas and lentils)
1.Black beans are very low in fat, packed with fiber and delicious. Top with mustard or salsa
2. Vegetarian baked beans (do not have the pork in them!)
3. Lenitl  soup: Lentils are low in fat and very nutritious
Fruits: Pears, cherries, stawberries, peaches, apples, bananas, pineapples and just about any fruit makes a great dessert!
Remember your portion control when eating!! Too much of anything can cause you to gain weight.  But if you eat fruits, veggies and grains, you will be on your way to being slim. It may not be overnight- but eventually, if you eat right- your body will thank you!!
